A No Nonsense Address Of Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
The lower eyelid blepharoplasty operation is commonly completed by a plastic surgeon for purely superficial reasons. This operation is done to get rid of any puffiness or excess fat on the lower eyelid. Occasionally this can be due to loose muscle tissue, if this is the case the doctor may have to put a stitch in place to hold the muscle together. Baggy skin may also be addressed at the same time.
This procedure is not only performed on the older patients but also on young people. Some younger patients have been born with a predisposition to fat building up under the eye.
The exhausted look that comes with having excess fat under the eye should be changed to a spry youthful image. This can be especially helpful to the young because it is said that the fat does not return.
It is said that you will see a seventy to eighty percent difference in the appearance around the eye area. One should note that this procedure will not improve the look of under eye wrinkles or dark circles.
Because the eye area is a tender spot to work on not many plastic surgeons do this procedure. This procedure takes skill and exactness.
The type of incision that will be made depends on whether the patient is only having the fatty pockets removed or also having loose skin tightened. For either procedure a local anesthetic is given to numb the pain, and most often a sedative will be given intravenously.
If the patient only needs to have the fat removed, a small cut will be made inside the lower eye lid. The plastic surgeon will than gently remove the appropriate amount of fat from the under eye area. Depending on the patient either no stitches will be used or the surgeon will close the area with stitches that dissolve.
If a patient is getting a traditional lower eyelid surgery where both the fat and the loose skin removed the incision will be made along the lower lash line. The external skin resurfacing can be done with by having a strip of skin pinched and removed, or a carbon dioxide laser removal or chemical peel.
Lower lid blepharoplasty surgery can take from one to three hours. The patient will see that have reduced swelling and bruising in a few weeks but will not see he full advantages for a few months.
